Learn how to turn “what if” into “what is” in this field experience that will reveal a place-based approach to community development that has been transformative in strengthening the historically-Black neighborhoods surrounding Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Lift Orlando is a local nonprofit organization and a member of Purpose Built Communities Network, founded by Warren Buffet. Lift Orlando serves as the community quarterback, facilitating the collaboration of residents, businesses, and community leaders working toward a shared vision of strengthening The Communities of West Lakes. Located west of Downtown Orlando, the West Lakes Community Campus provides a beautiful, safe, and walkable neighborhood full of vital resources that help foster a vibrant and healthy community. You’ll experience the campus via a driving tour to view some of the very spaces that Lift Orlando and partners have brought to the area since 2013 including a community of mixed-income apartment homes (including senior residences), a state-of-the-art Boys & Girls Club, an early learning center, as well the newly-renovated Lake Lorna Doone Park, and a health and wellness center that’s currently under construction. Then you'll hear about the work they have yet to do to fulfill their vision from Eddy Moratin, president of Lift Orlando.
